📖 Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever]; the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot, and those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God.
—Romans 8:6-8 AMP
What’s your thinking like? Is it in line with the Word of God? Are you spiritually-minded or is your thinking in line with the world? Notice that thinking in line with the Spirit of God comes from walking with God (verse 6). Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” As we strengthen our walk with God through a lifestyle of prayer and reading the Word of God, we can’t help but change in our thinking. We won’t want to think like the world because we are aware that it is displeasing to our Heavenly Father. We don’t want to have a mind that is hostile towards God, so we should submit our minds and lives to Him. We choose to walk by faith and not by sight because we know that the faith life is a life that is pleasing to God. The goal should be to live a life that is controlled by the Holy Spirit, not the flesh. Romans 12 admonishes us to present our bodies to God and allow our lives to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. God wants us to experience a changed life, and that change begins with our minds. It’s simple. When we are spiritually minded, we experience life and peace. When we are carnally minded we won’t.
